Upcoming CQL Seminars In New York
1-Day CQL Seminars Coming to New York In October 2018
There are one-day seminars being presented by CQL | The Council on Quality and Leadership in October 2018. These two seminars cover different topics that will improve the quality of life and quality of services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, psychiatric disabilities, older adults, and youth. If you would like to attend both seminars, you will need to register for them separately.
- Tuesday, October 9th 2018 • 9:00am - 4:00pm
- Presented by Michael Clausen, CQL Quality Enhancement Specialist
This 1-day dynamic seminar connects the dots between Appreciative Inquiry and Data Analysis. What are some successful initiatives at an organization? Where can improvement be made? How can those pockets of excellence be applied to areas where growth is needed? What data can an agency use in assessing these approaches? CQL will answer these questions by breaking down the seminar day, into two distinct yet interrelated parts.
The first half of the day covers Appreciative Inquiry (AI), which is about identifying possibilities instead of problems, focusing on strengths versus weaknesses, and transforming traditional criticisms into organizational innovation. We’ll share what AI is, why it’s important, and how it can be used by human service organizations to evolve from a deficit-driven outlook, to one that applies areas of success to areas of opportunity.
The second half of the day covers Data Analysis, and how it can be used to improve quality. As organizations replicate best practices through Appreciative Inquiry, how do they evaluate the success of these efforts? Attendees will learn how to understand and use data effectively so that they’re making informed decisions and being proactive in measuring results. CQL will detail specific data analysis approaches and reporting techniques that will take your quality management system to the next level.

- Presented by Betsy Burns, CQL Quality Enhancement Specialist
From person-centered discovery to person-centered planning - this 1-day interactive seminar breaks it all down for human service organizations. While some agencies attempt to understand what really matters to someone they support, they often struggle in how to accurately and consistently gather that information. When it gets to the stage of ensuring that the information is used to directly inform that person's Life Plan, there can be a disparity between what the organization believes are the highest priority outcomes, and what is truly most important to the person at that individual level.
In this seminar, you will find out how the Personal Outcome Measures® can be used as the foundation for planning. CQL will go well beyond an introduction of the tool, and demonstrate how organizations can use it to empower people in developing their Life Plan, designing supports, achieving outcomes, and tracking progress. Attendees will learn about real-world examples of how other organizations have been able to make it all happen. CQL will also share techniques and tips to improving accessibility of both the discovery process and the plan itself. This offers an opportunity for providers to advocate for people to create their own Life Plan using Personal Outcome Measures® prior to the Life Plan meeting and have the person present it at their meeting, or support them in presenting it. Join us for a day full of engaging presentations, practical stories, and applicable information.
